Regionales Rechenzentrum, Universität zu Köln

The Regionales Rechenzentrum zu Köln (RRZK) offers high performance
computing (HPC) services to scientific users from the university and the
state of Northrhine Westfalia. The HPC Group, headed by Viktor Achter,
is actively supporting customers from many fields, e.g. life science in
optimizing their applications to modern hardware architectures.

Since 2011, Prof. Lang and Viktor Achter are leading the BMBF funded
project NGSgoesHPC with the focus on optimizing typical life science
assembly and alignment codes to drive their usability up to modern and
future hardware architectures. The experience gained within the previous
work in the field of supercomputing and life science specific codes will
be beneficial for the workplan of the FAST project. The results of the
FAST project are expected to flank the efforts of the RRZK to push the
usability of supercomputing algorithms further to the coming generations
of supercomputers.
